War Diary

1944-12-01
Regiment 2nd Wiltshire
Location Khassa, Palestine
Entry [War diary for this month commences with the following brief precis of the month's activities] On the return of the battalion from the M.W.T.C. (TRIPOLI) at the beginning of the month, training was very much reduced and all attention was concentrated on sports and recreational activities. As it was expected that the Div would be moving during normal Xmas period, it was decided that Xmas would be celebrated on 15 Dec. However, for operational reasons the relief of 5 Div by 4 Div did not take place as expected and Christmas was celebrated at the normal time. It was not known by anyone in the Division how much longer we would remain in PALESTINE. The new Brigadier, BRIGADIER W.H. LAMBERT C.B.E assumed command of the Brigade [1st]. Before taking up this appointment he was B.G.S. HQ 13 Corps .
