| Entry | The Commander - in - Chief, M.E.F. GENERAL SIR BERNAD PAGET, K.C.B., D.S.O., M.C. [name as spelt in diary] was in the Divisional Area between the 3rd - 5th October, and visited the battalion on the morning of the 4th. He watched companies doing their training, and he also watched a 3" Mortar demonstration. [4 - 6th] A "Skill at Arms" Competition was being run by Division. Its object broadly was to test the physical fitness and standard of shooting in rifle platoons throughout the division, and it was put on a competitive basis to promote greater interest. Elementary contests between platoons in the battalion were held between the above mentioned dates in order to chose [sic] the best four platoons, to represent the battalion in the Brigade Competition.
