Entry [12 - 20th sic] 0900: A Battalion parade was held in the morning at which the General gave an address. He praised the battalion for its past exploits which he said had gained fame throughout the army, and commented on the present smartness and soldierly bearing of the battalion. He considered them to be the smartest troops he had seen in the MIDDLE EAST. He added that he felt sure that the battalion would go on to achieve still further honour. 1000: The General attended a meeting at which all ranks were represented to discuss how the memory of SGT. ROGERS V.C M.M., and the gallant deeds for which he was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross could be perpetuated. The following decisions were made and approved by the Colonel of the Regiment:- 1. The 3rd of June shall be known in the 2nd Battalion as "SGT. ROGERS DAY" 2. The citation of the gallant deeds for which SGT. ROGERS was awarded the Victoria Cross shall be published at the head of PART I Orders for that day. 3. The anniversary will be observed by such ceremony or mark of remembrance as may be suitable for the circumstances of the day and decided by the Battalion Commander. 4. The Boys, the Drums, the Carrier Platoon and the Sergeants Mess in which SGT. ROGERS spent his Regimental Life, shall be given their appropriate place in the arrangements for this day. Training with tanks proceeded as planned and during this period each rifle company did a field firing scheme, with a sqn of tanks and 3" Mortars under command. One of the chief objects of this exercise was to practice platoons and companies in communication with tanks by "38" set and the rapid indication of targets by the infantry with the use of incendiary bullets and 2" mortar smoke bombs.
