Entry | The Colonel of the Regiment, GENERAL SIR WILLIAM PLATT G.B.E. K.C.B. D.S.O., ARRIVED AT THE [sic as Diary] Battalion at approx 1030hrs, having flown from EAST AFRICA. He spent the morning talking with the C.O. and watching 'C' Coy training with tanks. At lunch time he met all the Officers of the battalion, and in the afternoon he was much impressed by a 3" Mortar demonstration that was put on for his benefit, and also by photographs taken by CAPT R. LUCAS while the battalion was in action in SICILY and ITALY. 1700-1730: The General had his photograph taken with all the officers of the battalion and then with the W.O's and Sgts. In the evening a cocktail party was held in the Officers Mess to celebrate his visit. Among the many guests who were there , were BRIGADIER LORNE CAMPBELL V.C., D.S.O., TD., BRIGADIER A.M. FINLAISON D.S.O., O.B.E., WHO [sic as diary] commanded 17 BRIGADE, and BRIGADIER FRINKE D.S.O., the acting G.O.C. 31st INDIAN ARM'D DIV., besides the C.O's and senior officers of many units in the division.
