Regiment | 2nd Wiltshire |
---|---|
Location | Pignatoro, Italy |
Entry | [15 - 18th] During this period the C.O. held a battalion parade, on which he reviewed the past 11 months and spoke to the men about the future. He told them that we would be in the area for about 10 days and in all we would be out of the line for about 3 months for a rest, refit and training. The C.O. laid down that there would only be 20 minutes drill and 20 minutes P.T. daily. The rest of the time would be spent in organised recreation for the men. During the period spent at PIGNATORO, every man had 48hrs by the sea, and one trip to NAPLES and one to POMPEII. A cocktail party was held in the Officer's Mess on the 19th. Guests included the Divisional Commander, the Brigadier, senior officers of the supporting arms in the division and officers from other battalions, as well as nursing sisters from the nearby military hospitals. At the same time the battalion's head dress was changed from FS. Caps to G.S. CAPS - with this change there came the introduction of the wearing of a maroon square 2" x 2" as a background to the cap badge. |
