Entry | By now the battalion had advanced just over 9000 yards, and had done better than any other unit in the division. Throughout the day the battalion remained in occupation of its present positions, allowing units on our flanks to get level with us. There was considerable shelling and mortaring of the fwd coys, and about a dozen casualties were suffered in the battalion. Several hostile guns were pinpointed and the amount of hostile fire decreased appreciably during the afternoon. During the day the A/Tk guns were moved farther forward into better positions and other [sic] brought forward and their arcs of fire linked with a troop of tanks under our command, we had a formidable anti-tank defence. So ends a month in which we have seen the battalion go over to the attack, after so many months of static warfare, and carry out these operations with determination and success. [Signed] E.A.
