Regiment | 2nd Wiltshire |
---|---|
Location | Anzio, Italy |
Entry | The advance continued and the battalion occupied all the dominating high ground S.E. of ARDEA itself without interference and patrols reported ARDEA to be clear itself. 'B' Coy took 4 Italian NEMBO Paratroops prisoner. So far the total casualties suffered by the battalion since the start of the advance numbered 22. 0300hrs: The battalion was ordered to occupy highground N.W. of ARDEA and a certain amount of resistance was expected from rearguards who had established a line of resistance to the N.W. of ARDEA. The attack went according to plan and the only opposition was encountered by 'B' Coy who were heavily mortared as they reached their objective, but they stayed there, and the operation was completed according to plan. 5 Casualties including 2/LT CRAWSHAW. Mortars, M.M.G's and A/Tk guns were immediately brought forward to support the battalion, against any counter-attack, or to support any further advances. Patrols were sent out from 'B' and 'C' Coys 1000 yards forward but they found no enemy. The maintenance of the forward companies was also completed without a hitch.
