War Diary

1944-04-20
Regiment 2nd Wiltshire
Location Anzio, Italy
Entry During the morning our mortar posns were accurately shelled, and twice later in the day. 3 dugouts were hit, but only casualties were 2 wounded. NO damage was done to the mortars. The Divisional Comd, Maj. Gen. P.G. GREGSON-ELLIS OBE, spent the whole day in the 'C' Coy sniping post in the most fwd section. He saw BOSCHE at 600x range, but decided that the range was too great for him, so fired the 25-pdrs instead. CAPT. R. LUCAS, O.C. 'B' Coy, was wounded with 2 Pioneers whilst directing mine-sweeping ops.
