Entry 1200hrs: Pioneers report that they have completed a footbridge over the demolished bridge at 233912 and also removed 1 cwt of dynamite from the old bridge. 1330hrs: Patrol of I Section returns after observing the PENNAPIEDMONTE from 167926. All was still in the town, the only enemy movement seen being three soldiers and a mule on the crest of the hill above it. 1730hrs: C Coy patrol which went at 1430 to contact 5 Para Bn returned. Information received from Para Bn that VASSETTI 1998 was very strongly dug and wired in and defended by 3 M.G's and 4 x 8.1 cm mortars. 1845hrs: Large fire seen burning in CIVITELLA. At first it was thought that the enemy were sacking the place as they had threatened, but a patrol of 2 Innisks lying in wait had seen nothing and it was later learnt that the fire was caused accidentally by a civilian.
