Entry Four patrols were sent out during the day. D COY PATROL 0300hrs: Left PALAMBARO at 0300 hrs and made a lively demonstration in front of PENNAPIEDMONTE at first light with L.M.G. T.S.M.G. and 2" Mortar. Meanwhile an O.P. had been established on CAPOLEGROTTE 1794 to watch the enemy reactions and take bearings on any enemy weapons which opened up. M.G's opened up from 156948 and 155954 and lights were seen at 155943, suggesting that this might be an alarm post. This fact was later confirmed by civilians. C COY PATROL 1230hrs: C Coy Recce patrol returns and reports that they were mortared at 193962 by a mortar in the GUARDIAGRELE area and fired on by a M.G. situated at rd and tk junc 197972. They also saw an A/Tk gun on the road at 189982. All roads and tracks leading to GUARDIAGRELE were blown. S COY PATROL 0200hrs: Left PALAMBARO 0700hrs: Arrived Pt 562 (1894). Established that there were enemy in PISSAVINI (1795) and fired 30 x 3" Mortar bombs into the area. B COY PATROL 0800hrs: Left B Coy area to see if there were any enemy in CIVITELLA and FARA. 1530hrs: Returned with information that both towns were empty but that the area is patrolled regularly from CORPISANTI 1683. During the day 9 more S mines, 1 TELLERMINE and 1 prepared charge from A Coy area. An S mine manufactured in August 43 was examined and found to contain a mixture of ball bearings and small pieces of shrapnel instead of the usual 350 ball bearings.
