WEST of ring contour 025462 D.F. Rd 026462 C Coy 2 CAMERONIANS (under command) Pt 1086 (0342) with one Pl on Pt 1192 (0443) A Coy) In reserve in MONTENERO with battle positions prepared behind the D Coy) forward coys and counterattack roles onto the fwd areas. A/Tk 2 x 6 Pdr in area 068470 to cover rd from N.E. and S.W. M.M.G.(7 Cheshires) Task: - S.W. slopes of Pt 1168 (0447) 4.2" Mortars - Tasks: - (a) ALFEDENA, (b) Area 022474, (c) Pt 1154 (0248) (d) Area 012483(e) Pt 1152 (0147) Routine Patrols were as follows from dawn to dusk. (a) 065470. Two N.C.O's and 12 men of A Coy. Tasks: -(a) Road block. (b) Constant listening patrol of two men from S ANTONIO 065470 to STA 072495 to ensure that no mines were laid by enemy patrols. (b) 052457 Two N.C.O's and 6 A Coy. Task: - Protection of MONTENERO from WEST and S.W. (C) About 045575 Two N.C.O's and 6 men B Coy Task: - Prevent enemy using track. (d) Road 028467 Two N.C.O's and 6 C Coy. Task: - Prevent enemy using track. At first light each morning the rd MONTENERO - STA 072495 was searched for mines by a jeep patrol provided by 4 Pl. An O.P. at 041471 was manned during daylight hours by the I Section. 0100 hrs: As soon as the fwd coys were in position B & C Coys each sent out an officer's Recce Patrol to find suitable crossing places on the rivers SANGRO and TORTO respectively. They reported that the SANGRO was fordable in three places about 053495 and the TORTO at 022473. 1300hrs: B Coy shelled by enemy, by high velocity gun in area BARREA 9950. One killed and 3 wounded. About 20 shells fell in the area. 1500hrs: C Coy were shelled but suffered no casualties. 2000hrs: Patrol of C Coy left ALFEDENA 0247. They reached the town without incident, searched it, lay up in houses from time to time and in all spent three hours there without seeing any sign of the enemy.
