Entry 13 I.B. moved forward by M.T. am to area S. POLO. At first light 2 INNISKS moved fwd to achieve their objectives set out in Information Paragraph of Operation Order No. 1. 2 WILTS approached Pt. 784 by march route across country and at 1400 leading coys crossed start line in the green valley by S. MASSIMO. By 1515 hrs Bn objective Pt. 762 (Map Ref 3222 ISERNIA 1/50,000) was clear of GERMANS and 'D' 'A' and 'B' Coys were in position from right to left facing NORTH to CANTALUPO, with Bn HQ and 'C' Coy in res on the SOUTH slope. Opposition by 9 PGR of 26 PZ DIV was slight being estimated at 1 Pl in strength. By 1600 hrs heavy shell fire came down along ridge from enemy 15 cm S.P. guns and at last light about 1730 hrs two enemy fighting patrols broke into our position, taking fiv [sic] Ps/W. Shelling ceased by 1800hrs. Bn casualties were Three killed, 7 wounded and 5 prisoners. Against this two Germans were found dead next morning in front of 'A' and 'B' Coy positions and four prisoners including the Officer Commanding No. 9 S.P. gun coy were taken.
