War Diary

1943-07-21
Regiment 2nd Wiltshire
Location D + 11 Day, [Semeto River Area], Sicily
Entry The Raid is repeated at 0100hrs by Mr. Moore, but the enemy is alert and 12 Pl never got into enemy positions which are stronger than was originally supposed, comprising six automatics and one 5cm Mortar. Our casualties are Mr. Moore and 6 O.Rs wounded and 4 O.Rs Missing. Enemy activity is limited to automatic fire at our O.P. in the afternoon, and a few rounds of shell fire about mid-day on B Coy and Bn HQ areas. A Coy attack on enemy STRONGPOINT raided by B Coy the previous night is cancelled at 2130hrs just as the first tps are about to move to the start line. It is interesting to note that if this attack had gone fwd A Coy would have had three Fd Regts and a Medium Regt Arty in spt
