Entry 0900: Lieut Colonel G.P. Oldfield accompanied by Adjt leave with Bde Cmdr to make recce of aerodrome area. 0940: Major W.A. Heal, Bde Major, gives Warning Order for Bn to move to aerodrome. 1205: Lieut Colonel G.P. Oldfield holds conference, present 2 i/c, Adjt, RIO, RSO & Os C 'HQ' 'A' & 'B' Coys 1350: Main body sets out by march route to drome. One section (3) carriers [blank space in diary] come under command. 1400: Lieut Colonel G.P. Oldfield accompanied by Os C 'HQ' 'A' & 'B' leave by carrier, followed by small baggage party. 1545: Main body arrive at aerodrome: 'C' & 'D' Coys at drome leave to take up positions along ROAD 1 as far as rd junc of Roads 1A & 1B. Two officers SAAF [South Africa Air Force] visit Bn HQ on drome. 2300: O.C 145 LAA Ind Tp report to Bn HQ. 2130: 'A' Coy Outpost on drome give alarm signal and several rounds are fired. Pte Williams A.R. of 'D' Coy wounded by sentry and eventually evacuated to Fd. Amb where he died.
