Entry | 6pm. Weather fine. Strength. 22 officers 717 OR. Detached 9 Officers 96 OR. 5 OR to Hospital. 6 OR struck off strength. 2Lt HARE struck. Observation. 8 men came down track N.W. of GEVSEKLI in pairs, at intervals, and entered village. Between 1700 and 1800 enemy were blasting in trenches N.W. of NIKOLIC. 0700, 4 mounted men seen going from LONGWOOD to enemy lines. Memo. News received of death of Lieut A.S. BUTLER on 17th inst. The machine in which he was flying caught fire near aerodrome, the fire exploded the bombs which the aeroplane carried and in few seconds both pilot and Lt Butler who was observer, were burnt to death. |
