(1) To be awarded the Military Cross 2nd Lt WILLIAM ARTHUR DIXON. "During the attack on 24th April 1917, after he was wounded, continued to lead a bombing party into the trenches where he killed four of the enemy and bombed seven dugouts which held parties of the enemy. He was wounded a second time and still persevered in leading and encouraging his men until he fell through exhaustion." (2). To be awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal 31754 C.S.M. ALBERT HENRY FARRER "After severe casualties had been sustained in officers and other ranks, this Warrant Officer, although wounded, displayed magnificent courage in helping to rally his Company. He persevered until he fell from exhaustion and loss of blood." (3) Memo regarding Sgt TOWNSEND (awarded MILITARY MEDAL) "On April 24th this Sergeant displayed great courage and devotion to duty. All the officers being killed or wounded he took command of the Company, rallied it on the enemy side of the ravine, and finally withdrew it under the most difficult circumstances." |
