Entry 6 pm. Weather, fine. Strength. 27 Officers 888 OR. Detached 12 Officers 103 OR. 1 OR rejoined from detachment, 1 OR struck off strength. Observation. Night. Intense bombardment of whole front from 1900 to 2100. No enemy movement observed. Enemy searchlight observed. Front line companies and Support Coy in SWINDON CAMP stood to, 2 platoons went to WYLYE CAMP to support left Coy, platoon from BASING HILL was brought down to SWINDON CAMP. Companies stood down at 2230 Occasional field gun shells remainder of night. Bs - 8 patrolled at 2200, some gaps cut by shells found which was repaired. Patrols out continually during night. 2 small dug outs damaged. Day. Quiet. 75th Brigade ordered gas alert at 1500 in consequence of 22nd Divn. line being bombarded with gas shells. News of fall of BAPAUME.
