Observation. Night. From 1800 to 0035 whole front was very heavily shelled with shrapnel and HE. A demonstration to support raid on PETIT COURONNE by 10th DEVONS was made from B2/B8 trenches with rifle and machine gun fire at 1940. After this enemy bombardment on our sector intensified. Barrage was put up in front of B10 and R Des JUMEAUX was searched. BASING HILL heavily shelled between 2115 and 2315. Four casualties on right sector and No3 LG emplacement slightly damaged. 2nd Lt COWIE with 12 OR attempted to rush Bulgar lake group at 1900 hours. The party only saw two Bulgars who fired on them and fled. Observation. Day. Very quiet. |
