Entry 6 pm. Weather cold and cloudy, Snow in morning. Strength. 29 Officers 920 OR Detached 14 Officers 100 OR. 2nd Lieut SEABROOK proceeded to 28th Divisional Train from 12th Corps Signal School. Sergt GIBBS to SUMMERHILL CAMP for duty as instructor to 228th Infy Bde. 1 OR rejoined from detachment. Observation. Night. B4 sector lightly shelled between 1945 and 0330 hours. Day. Very quiet. Memo- Lieut COWIE and Pte RIDGE of 'C' Coy went out on patrol in front of Lake Group at 1730. Passing the rocks in front of Lake Groups position, they got through gap in the 1st line enemy wire near the DOIRAN road and then struck off to the left to examine building which was thought to be a house but proved to be a stone fountain. The patrol then went on towards the second line enemy wire and were fired on by enemy group in front of wire. Bombs were thrown and a Very light put up. The group appears to consist of 4 men. Patrol retired as rapidly as possible, reaching our lines at 1900 hours. The Battalion baths are now open, enabling 60 men per day to have hot baths. The charcoal is made by night under the supervision of R.S.M.
