Entry 6 pm. Weather fine Strength 31 Officers 965 OR Detached 10 " 91 OR 1 OR wounded 3 OR to Hospital 1 Officer ( 2 Lieut Mackie to England ) 4 OR Struck off. 1 OR rejoined from Hospital. Observation night Our patrols went out during the night towards O2 nothing to report. Our artillery heavily shelled enemy wire and trenches on O2 - O1 during the night. Observation day Enemy shelled our trenches at intervals throughout the day, 3 HE shells fell in rear of BASING HILL Camp. DEER CUT RAVINE Camp was shelled by howitzers between 16.15 and 17.00, 8 shells were fired of which only two exploded. Our artillery heavily shelled wire and trenches on O2 during the day, enemy wire almost completely destroyed, trenches also badly damaged several dug outs were destroyed.
