Entry 6 pm. Weather Clear, Light Breeze. Strength 31 officers 971 OR. 2 officers 55 OR detached, 4 OR struck off Strength. Enemy attacked our forward positions but were driven off, our casualties were, 2 Lieut A S Bagshaw killed, 2 OR killed, 1 OR died of wounds, 16 OR wounded to Hospital. Report of Right Coy Held by A Coy, 0610 Enemy in small numbers sighted on Hill 6, Patrol sent out dislodged them but drew bombardment of 1 hours duration. See appendix II. 1400 Message received that enemies patrol 30 strong had been sighted in vicinity of Hill 6. 1430 - 1530 Intermittent rifle fire heard on left flank. 1530 A platoon was went out to occupy Hill 6 enemy were driven off. 1615 Platoon in possession of Hill 6 compelled to retire on account of our artillery opening fire. See appendix III. 1630-1830 Enemy kept up a vigorous bombardment of our right Coys positions. 18.30 onwards all quiet enemy having withdrawn Report of Left Coy held by C Coy: 0915 Enemy reported advancing on right post, they were fired on and retired. They were about 50 strong. 0215 Enemy scouts observed working round our front. 0235 Patrol of scouts send out under Lieut A S Bagshaw, went out to clear the gulley. 0330 This patrol found enemy in strength and were compelled to retire 2 Lieut A S Bagshaw killed. 0430 Enemy occupied points 1-2-3-4. Their artillery very active. 0555 Enemy retired off crests and concentrated in valleys. 0640 Reinforcements arrived to reinforce our left, artillery opened fire. Night quiet.
