Location Belgium, Nr. Kemmel
Entry 17th -18th These 2 days spent in equipping Companies with fighting kit. Battalion split up on 18th into Composite Battalion. 'C' & 'D' Coys with 1 Company 9th Cheshires and 1 Company 9th Welch and Battalion Headquarters under O.C. 6th Wilts Regt forming one Battalion . 'A' & 'B' Coys being attached to 9th Welch and remaining at ROSSIGNOL WOOD. Battalion under command of O.C. 6th Wiltshire Regt proceeded at 8p.m to Embankment Trenches N.E. of HOLLEBEKE (being conveyed by bus from KEMMEL to ESTAMINET CORNER) taking over from 111st Brigade. 2 Platoons of D & C Coys took over posts upon their respective battle fronts and were responsible for making all preliminary arrangements for Assembly. The remainder of these 2 companies were located in TRIANGULAR BLUFF under Lt. Shapland and were responsible for completing Battalion Dumps of wire, water and reserve rations in the EMBANKMENT. A strong line of outposts was thrown out on South Side of OPAQUE WOOD to screen the preparations. Practice Barrage at 5.30a.m and 3.30p.m - slight retaliation by enemy.
