War Diary

1916-07-08
Regiment 6th Wiltshire
Location France, Albert
Entry Continued consolidating position. The enemy subjected us to heavy artillery fire during the day. Late in the afternoon it was thought enemy were going to attempt a counter attack but nothing came of it, it is thought owing to well directed fire on CONTALMAISON by our heavy artillery, the only result being that enemy retaliated by heavily shelling our position and forming a barrage at HELIGOLAND and SAUSAGE VALLEY. During the night and early morning of 8/9 Battalion was relieved by Royal Warwicks & Bedfords of 112th Brigade. The Battalion went to billets in Albert. At 9p.m the same evening Battalion moved to billets at BAIZZIEUX where a draft of 109 men from the 3rd Battn arrived.
