Entry | Battalion moved at 3a.m from TARA USNA Line and took up position between HORSE SHOE LANE and HELIGOLAND in the German Front Line system. At 8/30a.m Battalion advanced in support of 9th Welch and took up a line conforming with 56th Brigade on LA BOISSELLE and CONTALMAISON Road. 56th Brigade on our right attempted to attack BAILIFF Wood and CONTALMAISON but were driven back thereby leaving our line in the "air" with a gap of 600 yards. In the afternoon front line suffered casualties from German snipers on our right. These snipers however were killed by our bombers late in the evening. During the night the Durham Light Infantry came in on our right and took up the position just North West of BAILIFF Wood. This was taken over in the morning by the Welch Fusiliers of our Brigade. Our men were in a very exhausted condition - the night was a very wet and trying one but the enemy did not attempt any counter attack. Remarks ALBERT COMBINED SHEET |
