War Diary

1918-10-26
Regiment 5th Wiltshire
Location Mesopotamia, At Kirkuk
Entry By 6.0a.m 26th the whole of KIRKUK had been cleared of enemy and 'B' and 'D' Companies were holding a position 500 yards North of the Town. Lieut C.F. CRAN showed marked initiative in organising the advanced platoons and sent back valuable information throughout the operations. LEWIN'S Column concentrated at KIRKUK bridge and the battalion proceeded with the column to YARVALI CW 38D halting there for two hours. At 3.0p.m the Battalion marched off and bivouaced at KALUR CW 2 for the night. The stamina shown by the battalion during the 25th and 26th was of a high order as the men were on the move almost continuously and got only snatches of sleep and food.
