Entry The mound 40 R afforded good observation for the advance of the armoured cars and 12th Cavalry, an enemy patrol on mound 20 R CW 80D (TC 253) being speedily driven in. At 7.30a.m the battalion with 1 Section 40th M. Gun Coy attached moved forward under cover of the depression to CW 91C 6/4 while column Headquarters were in position on mound 25R CW 91D with the 4th S. WALES BORDERERS just behind it. A few shells fell near the battalion without damage. At 10.0a.m 'B' Company went forward to CW 80C as escort to guns. At 4.0p.m 'C' and 'D' Companies and Battalion Hdqrs moved forward in support of the S.W.B and concentrated about CW 91B 80/80, remaining there for the night. During the night the enemy were reported to be withdrawing from KIRKUK.
