Entry 17th - 18th With the object of retaining the enemy forces on the KIRKUK line and preventing their defection to the Right flank 1st CORPS, who were operating towards MOSUL, a column composed of all arms and constituted as in APPENDIX I moved forward from TUZ. On the night of 17th/18th following force under Major R.I. SCORER M.C. left TUZ:- 5th Wilts less 'D' COMPANY 1 Section 12th CAVALRY 1 Section 40th M. GUN COMPANY Cable Detachment Det. 39th FIELD AMBULANCE 1 Section A/66 R.F.A. The general plan of the attack on TAUQ consisted of a cavalry flanking movement on TAUQ BRIDGE whilst the above column moved on TAUQ FORD preceded by two platoons of A. Company 5th Wilts under Lieuts KEY and DOUGLAS. L.A.M.B cars also were to proceed to FORD and TAUQ BRIDGE at dawn. After gaining TAUQ BRIDGE the cavalry were to move to CL 82B (TC 252) and intercept the enemy's retreat. Lieut KEY to take over garrison at TAUQ BRIDGE and Lieut Douglas to gain tower in C.F.4 B 9/1 (TC 211) by a flank march, before daylight 18th. TAUQ was successfully occupied, the cavalry capturing 25 prisoners and several animals. Both Lieuts KEY and DOUGLAS platoons were delayed, the former meeting an enemy cavalry patrol killing two horses and wounding three men, the latter getting into very difficult country. Several bridges crossing main TAUQ ROAD over nullahs on Right bank TAUQ CHAI were destroyed, but working parties from the battalion quickly effected repairs and L.A.M.B Cars were enabled to pursue the TURKS.
