| Entry | Tests were carried out by half Company of 8th Royal Welsh Fusiliers advancing to the attack and when 800 yards from objective, firing from the hip and continuing to advance. Tests did not prove very successful, shots for the most parts hitting the ground but a few yards in front of the firer. Subsequent tests were carried out with men advancing simultaneously firing from the shoulder. The results were better than firing from the hip but the number of shots hitting the objective was very few, while men complained of the tiring effect of prolonged advance firing from the shoulder. |
