Regiment | 5th Wiltshire |
---|---|
Location | Mesopotamia, At Ain Lailah |
Entry | Work on the defensive positions was continued by the Battalion. At the Serai camp 2 Lewis Guns were erected for ANTI AIRCRAFT work while 1 Lewis Gun was erected on CEMETERY HILL position and one on Main Pass for similar duty. Communication was obtained with 38th Bde on SAKALTUTAN PASS by HELIO during the day, but this was impossible at night owing to the weakness of the Signal lamps in possession. Animal watering, and washing was carried out in the stream running about 150 yds EAST of the SERAI. This water was slightly brackish but animals drank freely. Drinking water was obtained from an underground spring (KHORAZ) which flowed into the AIN LAILAH STREAM about 600 yds SOUTH of the SERAI. This water was excellent and quite sweet. The output of the KHORAZ was 450 gallons per hour. Maj. Gen Sir W de S. CAYLEY KCMG. GoC 13 Div visited AIN LAILAH. |
