Home of the Infantry Regiments of Berkshire and Wiltshire

War Diary

1917-12-07
Regiment 5th Wiltshire
Location Mesopotamia, Nahrin Bridge
Entry Battalion moved from bivouac at 7.45a.m and proceeded through SAKALTUTUN PASS to SUHANIYEH sic [SUHANIYA] arriving at 3p.m and bivouaced for night. A most trying march, carried out in face of a violent dust storm, which at times rendered sight almost impossible. The troops were very exhausted on arrival at bivouac, the march over hills being one of the worst experienced in the country and recalled the extraordinary dusty conditions of the CTESIPHON march after crossing the TIGRIS in FEBRUARY 1917.
