Regiment 5th Wiltshire
Location Mesopotamia, Serajik
Entry 2Lieuts R.G. THOMPSON and A. DAVEY rejoined Battalion from sick and were isolated with party NORTH of Camp in accordance with Divisional wire, it being suspected that smallpox was being carried up from SADIYEH REST CAMP. During the month good progress was made with Specialists training, and all Lewis Gun Teams carried out firing NORTH of TIJDARI WOOD. A special N.C.O's course of Bayonet fighting was also carried through, and excellent results obtained. Sickness in the Battalion showed a marked decrease over the previous month, the percentage evacuated being 1.9 for the month. Most of the cases evacuated were Septic sores and Tonsilitis. A great deal of digging and road making was done during the month, in some cases a considerable distance from Camp. In order to accustom men to their packs in view of possible Operations, all parties paraded in full marching order. Route Marches in full packs were also carried out whenever possible. R.H.
