War Diary

1917-09-28
Regiment 5th Wiltshire
Location Mesopotamia, Abu Khamed
Entry Second Line of Defence was laid out, R3 & R4 being allotted to the Battalion and work commenced on same. During the month the weather turned cooler, and the percentage of sick decreased very considerably. An average number of two per day was evacuated during the month. Training was chiefly confined to Specialists, and much progress was made with Grenadiers, Lewis Gunners and Snipers while a training class for young N.C.O's was also commenced. Practice in Night Marching on Compass Bearing was carried out with good result. A great deal of clearing for field of fire had to be done and this involved very hard digging. Tasks however were allotted and the men worked splendidly, displaying a keen all round interest. R.H. Haseldine Lt. Col. Comdg 5th (S) Bn Wiltshire Regiment
