Regiment | 5th Wiltshire |

Location | Mesopotamia, Gomorrah Post |
Entry | For the final stopping of the breach the battalion was largely responsible. Success was largely due to the untiring efforts of Capt. MURPHY. The Divisional General was very grateful for the work done. Flooding of the right bank of the river seriously threatened communications with ORAH and movement of troops to the firing line. The C.R.E. 13th Div. wrote to O.C 5/Wilts complimenting the work of the 2 companies concerned, with special reference to the energy of Capt. MURPHY, mentioning also by name Sgt. POWELL and 20175 Pte. BIDMEAD of B Coy, the former for his energy in organising his party, the later for his intelligent application to the task. |
