Entry Fire trenches Lieut R.D. Robertson of the 1st Gordon Highlanders and 2/Lt L.Y. Inman of 3rd Royal Scots arrived today with a draft of 100 men from the 3rd Wilts. Lt Robertson took over command of 'C' Coy from 2/Lt Patterson and 2/Lt L.Y. Inman was posted to 'B' Coy. 2/Lt Morgan was transferred from 'C' to 'A' Coy. The day passed quietly. In the evening a small amount of rain fell, the wind was high and a considerable amount of lightning could be seen. We had one patrol out. Today there was the first issue of fresh vegetables, it consisted of cabbages and pumpkins. Note. It should have been stated under 28.10.15 that the 4th S.W. Borderers are on our right and the 8th R Welsh Fusiliers are on our left. APPENDIX A word might be added as to the wastage in the Battalion during the month of October. On the 1st of Oct there were 11 officers (including Q.M.) and 388 other ranks. On the 30th of Oct* there were 20 officers and 390 other ranks. Between the 1st and 30th 130 men joined in 3 drafts The casualties in the Battalion were as follows:- Killed : Officers 1 Other ranks 4 Wounded: Other ranks 11 Sick: Officers 6 Other ranks 105 Of the sick about 70 cases were diagnosed as dysentery; the remainder were cases of jaundice, rheumatism and other complaints completely incapacitating the men.
