Home of the Infantry Regiments of Berkshire and Wiltshire

War Diary

1915-10-29
Regiment 5th Wiltshire
Location Gallipoli, Lala Baba
Entry Fire trenches 2/Lts E.G le B Banks and C.W. Morgan of 6th Welsh Regt. were attached to the Battalion today and attached to 'B' and 'C' Coys respectively. The day was quiet and mild. One man was dangerously wounded by a Turkish sniper. Our arrangement of companies was not approved of by the Divisional General who wanted companies in the firing line to have their own supports and not to be supported by another company. Two patrols under 2/Lts Page and Martin went out to find gaps in the barbed wire in front of our fire trench. 2/Lt Page stumbled across a telephone wire leading from our barbed wire for a considerable distance towards the Turkish lines. Companies were occupied in settling down and cleaning and improving trenches and latrines which the Medical Officer found to be in a very unsatisfactory condition.
