Regiment 5th Wiltshire
Location Gallipoli, Lala Baba
Entry Reserve trenches Today the Turks celebrated their New Year's Day by shelling us. Shrapnel was burst over Bn Headquarters but fortunately did no damage. At 11.30a.m the Turks again shelled us and expended a most unusual amount of shrapnel upon us for these relatively quiet days. This second period of bombardment lasted on about 1/2 hour and we suffered the loss of one man wounded and two men grazed. 2/Lieuts F.A. Russell, J.W. More and C.F. Cran were temporarily detached for beach duty on Little West Beach. 2/Lieut R.W.M. Dewhurst proceeded to hospital.
