Regiment 1/4th Wiltshire
Location Palestine, Rafat
Entry In the morning it was observed that during the night the enemy had placed a Black, Red and Yellow flag in a pole some 3ft 6in high about 250 yards from RAFAT at approx N28 c30. In the evening a patrol of one officer and 5 OR went out from our lines to collect the flag. On reaching a point about 70 yards from the flag, an enemy patrol, estimated at eight was heard about 50 yards to the left. Shortly after movement was heard about similar distance to the right followed almost immediately by movement in front in the direction of the flag. The patrol remained for 45 minutes and sounds of shuffling on the rocks were heard continuously from the three directions. The patrol retuned at 2145 without succeding in bringing in the flag. The enemy shelled our bivouac area, and in reply our artillery shelled ARARA. Later the enemy retaliated and again shelled our bivouac area, One OR of 299 MG Coy was wounded in the foot
