Entry 0515. The Battalion moved out to the starting point for its share in the days operations. The general intention was for the 75th Division to advance its line to KH el FAKHAKHIR (098 S 27b) - ridge in S26 c,d-SH SUBIH ridge (084 N 24 d, 098 s19c, d)-ARARA (084 N 29 a,b)-RAFAT (085 V 4,a)-085 V 7a HILL 839. The part allotted to this battalion was to take part of SH SUBIH ridge from the tomb (exclusive) to the E end. 0630. The Battalion was in preliminary position ready to advance, No 1 and 3 Coys in firing line, and No 2 and 4 in reserve, the LG's of the two reserve Coys being grouped under Lieut H M Thurgar. In the meantime Major C G Bennett, with Signallers and spare LG men for filling magazines (Post A) proceeded up the WADI ARAK and took up position at A7c 39 in the N ridge of the wadi. Owing to the advance being delayed longer than was anticipated the Battalion remained in this position during the greater part of the day. The front line in moving forward a short distance down the S ridge of the WADI ARAK came under sniper and MG fire and there were several casualties. At night the Battalion moved down into the WADI ARAK and took up a position across the head of the wadi (A7a).
