War Diary

1918-06-05
Regiment 2nd Wiltshire
Location France, In Action near Chambrecy
Entry Between 2 and 3am our artillery opened heavily on enemy gun positions and possible assembly lines. The enemy's artillery replied, shelling the woods and roads heavily. Casualties were slight. The battalion "stood to" at 2am until well after daybreak, as there was a mist, but no attack developed. The day was quiet except for shelling by both artilleries. At night all positions of the Battalion were completed and thoroughly organised in depth, the Front line being held thinly. Enemy artillery was rather more active. Lieut Col AVP MARTIN, now Prisoner of War in Germany, awarded the DSO, vide the King's Birthday honours.
