War Diary

1917-06-27
Regiment 2nd Wiltshire
Location Belgium, Trenches
Entry Nothing unusual throughout the day. Trench routine as usual. 2/Lieuts WG FIELD and HC CLARK and 32 other ranks had a successful patrol, and obtained identification of the Battalion opposite our trenches. No prisoners were taken as the enemy proved recalcitrant. 3 were bayoneted (killed) and the remainder wounded. A shoulder title and cap were, however secured, and a safe withdrawal effected, although hotly pressed from the rear by strong enemy reinforcements with rifle fire and bombs. Identification - 46th RIR.
