War Diary

1917-04-25
Regiment 2nd Wiltshire
Location France, Trenches
Entry Early in the morning between 3 and 4am the enemy shelled our positions heavily. A counter attack was thought imminent, but did not materialize. Owing to the fact of digging "T" heads in front of the cable trench our casualties were few. As rations did not arrive during the preceding night the Colonel gave orders to treat the Iron Rations as the day's rations. The enemy shelled intermittently throughout the day, and at 8.0pm it became extremely heavy, greatly interfering with the work of deepening and generally strengthening the position.
