Entry | The commanding officer held a conference of company commanders during the morning. The Battalion was fitted up with picks, shovels, bombs, artillery flags etc. At mid day "A company less one Lewis Gun team, moved to strong points SW of HENNINEL to garrison same. About 4.30pm "B" and "C" companies left to report to 201st coy RE for carrying purposes. "D" company, one Lewis Gun team of "A" company, and Headquarters moved to HINDENBURG LINE South of HENINEL, where they remained in support, working in conjunction with the 2nd Yorkshire Regt. About 8.0pm the Battalion composed as above, moved to a bank SE of HENINEL and commenced to dig in. Orders were then received to move forward and establish communication between the Brigades right and the 33rd Division. The Battalion then advanced to the original "jumping off" trenches used by the 90th Brigade in the morning. The Battalion arrived at these trenches about midnight, and proceeded to fire step and generally improve them. Communication was established with the 1st MIDDLESEX Regt and 2nd ROYAL WELSH FUSILIERS on our right, and the 18th MANCHESTER Regt on our left. The Battalion remained all night. "C" and "D" companies rejoined during the night. |
