Entry | The Battalion celebrated Christmas having been in the trenches on Christmas Day. An excellent dinner was provided for the men in the recreation room. In the evening the sergeants held a dinner in the recreation room which turned out a great success. CSM GOUGH, acting RSM during the absence on leave of RSM BLAKE, proposed the toast of "The King". RQMS Miller then proposed "The Commanding Officer" and CSM ROBBINS "Our Officers". The Commanding Officer Lieut Col RMT GILLSON DSO responded to both toasts and remarked that he hoped we would all meet again next Christmas but not in France. Three cheers were then given for the Commanding Officer. A concert was then given, and Capt TROUP (the medical officer) Sgt Walker, Sgt Lees armourer Sgt Beard, CSM Fielding, and Pte Sawyer obliged with songs, and Cpl Acaster with a monologue. CSM Gough then made a short speech thanking the mess caterers (under CQMS Holloway) for their excellent arrangements, and also the artistes. The proceedings were then closed with "God Save The King". |
