War Diary

1916-09-14
Regiment 2nd Wiltshire
Location France, Trenches
Entry Usual trench routine LT HDID BROWN and 11 other ranks patrolled from trench 47 with the idea of capturing the Hun. None were seen except a working party in their front trench. 2/LT ER GARNETT took out a patrol on the south side of the RED DRAGON crater to examine the ground and condition of the craters as a possible site for forming up men before attack. He found the craters were partly filled with water and soft earth and of no use as a forming up place.
