Entry | 'Y' Day Bombardment continues the enemy retaliating with more artillery activity than on the previous days but still very weak. Final preparations are made for the assault day (Z) About midday orders are received postponing 'Z' day. The Battalion goes up to front line again, relieving the 18th Kings Liverpool Regt. This time 'B' company Left and 'C' company Right front trenches .'A' company in support and 'D' company in reserve. 2/Lieuts JC Badgely & JM Martin lead a patrol for reconnaissance purposes only. They make their way to hostile trenches opposite our right front to point known as 'Loop Sap'. They arrive at hostile remains of wire entanglement destroyed by our shell & are at once attacked by grenades thrown from the enemy's front line. Patrol find enemy to be holding his front line strongly, and one man of the patrol becomes wounded. Great difficulty is experienced in bringing in wounded member of the patrol. |
