| Entry | 'W' Day Bombardment of enemy proceeds. At 9.30pm, the Division next but one on our left issues a barrage of smoke in front of its lines. This is repeated by the Division immediately on our left at 10am and again repeated by us at 10.14am. The enemy take no action. Preparation work continued during day. 2/Lieut J MCWHANNEL leads a fighting patrol who go out after dark, and advance to enemy's wire & discover same to be destroyed. They then spot a small party of the enemy & attack them with bombs. This party disperses and disappears. Our patrol then enters enemy trench at BRICK POINT and discovers enemy works to be very much damaged, concrete machine gun emplacements blown in and dug outs destroyed. The patrol then returns to our lines. |
