Regiment 2nd Wiltshire
Location France, Trenches
Entry 'U' Day Battalion relieves 19th Kings Liverpool Regt in Z2 subsector trenches (opposite MONTAUBAN) with the 89th Bde, 30th Division on our right, and 18th Division on our left. Relief complete about 1.20pm. Bombardment of enemy's works begins. Artillery chiefly concerned in cutting enemy wire entanglements. Very little retaliation from the enemy. Weather good. During the night a patrol led by Sergt JOLIFFE reaches enemy wire entanglement and finds same to be cut in places. Sighting a hostile patrol, and having been ordered not to fight, Sergt Joliffe orders his patrol to lie down. They heard much tramping in enemy lines.
