Entry | Busy day preparing for special operation ie. To dig new fire trench 100 yards in front of present front line about 800 yards in length in conjunction with 2/BEDFORDSHIRE REGT . Trench to be complete with wire and communication trenches to old front line by 1.30am. At 6pm the battalion is relieved by 19th MANCHESTER REGT and assembles in the front line in the formation previously arranged with tools and materials. At 9.30pm the Battalion advances to point selected for new trench and commences work. The night was fine but dark the enemy was quiet, with the exception of sniping and occasional short bursts of machine gun fire. Everything went very smoothly and at 1.15am the task was complete. The battalion having suffered only 3 casualties, one NCO and 2 men wounded. |
