Entry The Battalion embarked for England in S.S. "Edinburgh Castle". The following officers embarked:- Lt Col JF Forbes Commanding Major JR Wyndham Senior Major Major CA Law Capt AW Timmis Capt ELW Henslow Capt HF Coddington Capt CGM Carter Capt CHE Moore Capt G Le Huquet Capt RP Culver Adjutant Lieut R Smith Lieut AS Hooper Lieut JM Ponsford Lieut AM Bleckley Lieut DA Ansted Lieut E Spencer Lieut G Macnamara Lieut HS Grimston Lieut J McL Down 2/Lieut FLD Shelford 2/Lieut OJ Calley 2/Lieut MR Fowle 2/Lieut RP Rogers Lt QM S Hewitt Capt K Comyn RAMC Medical Officer in charge of the Battalion. The strength of the Battalion was as follows:- Officers Other Ranks Women Children 24 876 47 76 Lieut WM Geddes was unable to embark as he was in hospital with Enteric Fever. Sergts Street & King remained at Gibraltar to look after their wives who were unable to travel. Five Other Ranks were left in hospital. Privates Ellis, Rowland, King & Hitchings who were employed in the household of the Governor of Gibraltar, remained in his employment and did not embark with the Battalion. The following letter was addressed to the Officer Commanding by His Excellency Sir HSG Miles Governor & C-in-C of Gibraltar:- "As I had no opportunity of addressing the Regiment before their embarkation, I shall be glad if you will convey to the Battalion my appreciation of this soldier like conduct and behaviour during their stay at Gibraltar. They have maintained the reputation of the Regiment and the good order and regularity of their embarkation reflects credit upon all concerned. I feel sure that if they take the field, they will do good service and add to the good name the Regiment has always possessed".
