Entry | Quiet day at STEENACKER when a start was made reorganising the Battn. Two Coys were formed consisting of two platoons each A B C & D platoons. It may be mentioned at this point that the only officers who survived these series of operation were as follows:- Lieut, A/Capt F Priestley. Lieut H B Brown MC & Capt H Webber who was acting as Q M & T O. These officers with Lieut Anderson, who had joined the Battn from the Base a few days previously, comprised the whole officer strength of the Battn. During the period from the 1st to this date the Transport was brigaded under the command of Major Blew, 1st Wilts Regt and moved back almost daily in accordance with the requirements of the situation without suffering any loss either in horses or personnel [sic]. It is also noteworthy that rations, water, SAA and supplies of all kinds never once failed to reach the fighting line with success [?] and regularity, this fact contributing not a little to the remarkable defence put up by the Battn. Transport difficulties were increased by the fact that each shift involved in all cases a second journey to bring along blankets and other essential stores. This was successfully effected and no stores whatever had to be abandoned to the enemy. |
